When a loved one goes missing, every single second counts—and sometimes, the best heroes walk on four legs.
A Disappearance in the Woods
Recently in Lutz, Florida, a town situated roughly 15 miles north of Tampa, 96-year-old Ray Cornett vanished near his home. Reported missing on a Saturday, officials from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office immediately stepped into action, classifying Cornett as a "missing and endangered person".
The stakes were incredibly high. Cornett's residence is located in a dense, wooded, and swampy area along the 18000 block of 4th Street Southeast, making the search a daunting task for human rescuers alone.

K-9 Boomer on the Case
To assist in this critical mission, the sheriff's office called in a highly skilled K-9 officer named Boomer. Body-camera footage captured the pivotal moment Boomer arrived at the property and was introduced to Cornett's personal belongings.
Once the sharp-nosed K-9 became familiar with the missing man's scent, he sprang into action. Boomer began confidently sniffing around the property before leading officers straight into the thick woods.

A Miraculous Discovery
In a brilliant display of tracking ability, Boomer successfully located Cornett just a couple of hundred yards away from his house. Although the 96-year-old was found stuck and immobile in the woods, the outcome was nothing short of a miracle.
Cornett was completely safe and uninjured, and authorities were able to happily return him to the comfort of his home. Thanks to the dedication of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and their furry deputy, this tense situation ended with a beautiful reunion. Boomer undoubtedly earned the title of "Good boy," proving once again that a dedicated K-9 truly is man's best friend.
