Vice President JD Vance visited Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday to showcase the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts targeting fraud and government waste through a federal anti-fraud task force established earlier this year.
President Donald Trump appointed Vance as the administration’s fraud czar several weeks ago, placing him in charge of a nationwide initiative focused on identifying fraudulent schemes and misuse of taxpayer funds.
During his visit, Vance is expected to deliver remarks centered on the administration’s enforcement actions and recent investigations, according to a report by The Hill.
The trip also comes as political activity intensifies in Maine ahead of a closely watched Senate contest involving Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Graham Platner. The race is expected to become one of the more competitive Senate battles of the election cycle.
Vance has led the anti-fraud initiative for slightly more than six weeks and has overseen several enforcement actions targeting alleged fraud operations in major metropolitan areas, including Los Angeles.
In mid-April, the federal anti-fraud panel conducted a major operation focused on fraudulent hospice schemes, part of a broader effort to identify misuse of federal healthcare funds and other taxpayer-supported programs.
“Where there is fraud, the task force will find it,” a Vance spokesperson said at the time. “We will not stop until every hard-earned taxpayer dollar goes toward the honest Americans who deserve them.”
The administration has increasingly emphasized anti-fraud enforcement as part of a broader campaign focused on government accountability, federal spending oversight, and investigations into abuse involving public assistance and healthcare programs.
