HOUSTON — National Rifle Association CEO Doug Hamlin said the Trump administration is fully aligned with the pro-Second Amendment movement, telling gun rights supporters the White House is now working hand-in-hand with constitutional advocates after years of what many conservatives viewed as federal hostility toward gun owners.
Speaking during NRA events and interviews surrounding the organization’s national convention in Houston, Hamlin praised President Donald Trump and members of his administration for reversing what he described as anti-gun policies pushed during the Biden years.
“The Trump administration is in lockstep with the pro-Second Amendment movement,” Hamlin said while discussing the administration’s relationship with gun rights organizations and firearm owners nationwide.
Hamlin pointed to several recent actions by the Trump administration, including efforts to roll back federal firearms regulations, challenges to ATF enforcement policies, and renewed support for constitutional carry protections and gun owner rights.
The NRA leader said gun owners are seeing a dramatically different approach coming out of Washington compared to previous years, arguing the administration now views law-abiding firearm owners as allies rather than political targets.
The comments come as the NRA works to rebuild momentum following years of internal legal battles, leadership shakeups, and financial struggles that weakened the organization’s influence nationally.
Hamlin, who became CEO in 2024, has focused heavily on reconnecting the organization with grassroots members while emphasizing constitutional rights, self-defense, and political activism heading into the 2026 midterm election cycle.
The NRA convention in Houston drew thousands of attendees, firearm manufacturers, political activists, and conservative media figures from across the country. The event featured speeches centered on gun rights, border security, constitutional freedoms, and opposition to expanded firearm restrictions.
Supporters at the convention frequently praised the Trump administration for what they described as protecting the Second Amendment against increasing pressure from gun control advocates at the federal and state levels.
The administration has also received strong backing from major firearm industry leaders and conservative advocacy groups who argue recent court rulings and regulatory battles have made the protection of gun rights one of the defining political issues heading into the next election cycle.
Hamlin said the NRA plans to remain aggressive in supporting candidates and policies that defend the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
“The fight for freedom never stops,” Hamlin told supporters during the event.
The NRA remains one of the most recognized and politically influential gun rights organizations in America despite years of legal and financial challenges.
