For many members of Goa’s expatriate community in Qatar, the stage has become a bridge connecting them to their roots — and at the center of this cultural movement is Jr. Roseferns, a passionate director and organiser who has dedicated himself to preserving Konkani tiatr and Goan culture far from home.
Originally from Goa and now based in Doha, Jr. Roseferns, also known as Rosario, has emerged as a prominent figure in Qatar’s Goan cultural scene through his work in theatre, music and community events.
Over the years, he has played an important role in ensuring that the vibrant tradition of Konkani tiatr — Goa’s popular form of musical drama — continues to thrive among expatriates living in the Gulf region.
Despite being miles away from Goa, Roseferns has remained deeply connected to his artistic roots. Through his productions, he has provided a platform for Goan artists residing in Qatar to showcase their talents while giving audiences a sense of nostalgia and cultural belonging.
One of his notable productions was the Konkani tiatr “Nathu”, which was staged on May 19, 2017, at the premises of Our Lady of Arabia Church. The production received appreciation from members of the Goan community and highlighted his dedication towards promoting traditional theatre in Qatar.
Known for his commitment as both a director and organiser, Roseferns has been instrumental in bringing together performers, musicians and theatre lovers for cultural events that celebrate Konkani language, music and heritage.
His efforts extend beyond entertainment. Community members say his productions help younger generations born or raised outside Goa stay connected with their traditions and understand the significance of Konkani theatre.
Apart from directing tiatrs, Roseferns has also been associated with organising musical programmes and social gatherings that strengthen ties within the Goan diaspora in Qatar.
At a time when traditional art forms often struggle for space in fast-paced modern societies, his commitment has ensured that tiatr remains alive among overseas Goans.
Through passion, perseverance and a deep love for his heritage, Jr. Roseferns has carved a unique artistic journey in Qatar — transforming stages abroad into spaces where Goan culture continues to flourish.
His work stands as a reminder that no matter how far one travels from home, art has the power to preserve identity, unite communities and keep traditions alive for future generations.
