A debate has surfaced in Cuncolim over the role of certain individuals in facilitating the establishment of a fishmeal processing unit in the industrial estate, with residents questioning whether public safety concerns are being ignored.

According to local sources, an individual allegedly helped in securing permissions and clearing obstacles for the proposed fishmeal factory, despite strong opposition from sections of the community.

Residents have claimed that concerns related to environmental impact, foul odour, and public health have not been adequately addressed. They allege that instead of safeguarding public interests, some people are actively supporting the project.

The issue has also sparked political discussion, with references being made to former Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s leadership and the role of local representatives. Citizens are now demanding transparency regarding who supported the project and under what circumstances approvals were granted.

Locals say the controversy has now become a major talking point in Cuncolim, with many asking: “Who is truly protecting the people — and who is helping the factory?”
