Federal authorities carried out coordinated raids Wednesday targeting the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas and a cannabis dispensary connected to the longtime Democratic power broker as part of a broad federal corruption and illegal marijuana sales investigation.

According to a Fox News report, FBI agents executed court-approved search warrants at Lucas’ office in Portsmouth, Virginia, while simultaneously conducting a separate operation at a nearby cannabis dispensary co-owned by the Democratic state senator and ally of Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

Video from the scene shared by Bill Melugin showed federal agents outside Lucas’ office as staff members were instructed to leave the building while investigators removed boxes and evidence from inside.

In the social media post, Melugin wrote, “BREAKING: @FoxNews is on scene in Portsmouth, VA where the FBI is raiding the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L Louise Lucas, a Democrat and close ally of VA Governor Spanberger. Fed law enforcement sources tell FOX this is in connection to a major corruption…”

Federal officers were also seen entering the cannabis dispensary with weapons drawn during the operation. Reports from the scene indicated that three individuals associated with the dispensary were taken into custody as agents moved through the property.

Additional footage posted by Fox News described an unfolding federal operation involving multiple arrests and searches connected to the investigation. The post stated, “NOW: An FBI raid is unfolding at the office of Virginia Democratic State Sen. Louise Lucas — and it’s already drawing serious attention. Multiple people on the scene are reportedly being taken into custody as agents move through the area.”

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that agents were conducting searches at at least 10 additional locations connected to the probe.

Lucas arrived at her office while agents were still conducting the search and told reporters she did not know why the FBI was there.

The warrants were reportedly authorized by a federal judge after investigators presented evidence establishing probable cause for the searches.

Lucas, one of the most influential Democrats in Virginia politics, campaigned heavily for Spanberger during the 2025 gubernatorial race and has remained a prominent figure within the state’s Democratic leadership.

The investigation also renewed scrutiny surrounding Lucas’ involvement in Virginia’s cannabis industry. One cannabis store linked to Lucas previously faced questions after reports alleged that some products sold at the location were mislabeled or contained THC levels exceeding limits permitted under Virginia law.

The federal operation intensified political pressure on Spanberger’s administration as critics continue attacking policies advanced by Democratic leadership in the state.

Lucas has long maintained a combative public profile, frequently using social media to post blunt political commentary, memes, and criticism of opponents.
