Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have announced they are expecting their third child, sharing news that adds another member to the next generation of the British royal family.
The announcement was confirmed in an official statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Monday, which said the baby is due to be born later this summer. The couple, who married in 2018, are already parents to two young sons and are said to be looking forward to expanding their family.
According to the statement, their children, August, aged five, and Ernest, aged two, are “very excited” about the arrival of a new sibling. The palace also conveyed that King Charles III is “delighted” by the news, reflecting the significance of the announcement within royal circles.
Princess Eugenie is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew—who is now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—and Sarah Ferguson. As a member of the extended royal family, she has maintained a relatively low public profile compared with some senior royals, though she continues to participate in charitable work and public engagements.
The news comes at a time when the royal family has been steadily marking generational change, with younger members increasingly in the public eye. While Eugenie is not a working royal in the same capacity as senior figures, she remains a well-recognized presence and is often noted for her involvement in social and environmental causes.
Her husband, Jack Brooksbank, has largely stayed out of the spotlight, focusing on his business interests while supporting his wife’s public commitments. The couple have balanced royal associations with private family life, frequently sharing glimpses of their children on select occasions.
King Charles III, Eugenie’s uncle, has maintained a close relationship with members of the wider family, and the arrival of another great-niece or great-nephew is expected to be warmly welcomed. The monarch, who ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, has often emphasized the importance of family continuity amid the monarchy’s evolving role.
The forthcoming birth will further extend the line of succession, though Eugenie and her children are positioned outside the immediate line to the throne. Nonetheless, each addition to the royal family continues to draw public interest, both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
With the baby expected later this year, attention will likely turn to how the couple chooses to share updates in the months ahead. For now, the announcement has been met with warm reactions, marking a moment of celebration for the family as they prepare to welcome a new arrival.
