The United States has directed the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 troops from Germany, according to a May 1 statement from a Pentagon spokesperson, marking a shift in American military posture across Europe.
Sean Parnell, speaking on behalf of the Department of Defense, said the decision followed an internal assessment of force positioning across the region. “This decision follows a thorough review of the Department’s force posture in Europe and is in recognition of theater requirements and conditions on the ground,” he told The Epoch Times.
Officials indicated the withdrawal will not occur immediately, with the process expected to unfold gradually over a period of six to 12 months.
The move reflects ongoing adjustments to U.S. military deployments overseas, as defense planners reassess operational needs and regional dynamics. No additional details were provided regarding which units would be affected or where the personnel would be reassigned.
