Rock singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen publicly offered a prayer for U.S. President Donald Trump following the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, marking a notably different tone from his past criticism of the president.

During a performance at the Moody Center in Austin on April 26, the 76-year-old artist paused to address the incident, offering prayers for both U.S. service members and those involved in the event.

“We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas… we pray for their safe return,” Springsteen said. He added gratitude that the president, administration officials, and attendees were not harmed during the shooting.

Call for Unity and Rejection of Political Violence

Springsteen emphasized that political differences should never lead to violence, urging Americans to uphold unity and democratic values.

“We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs,” he said. “But there is no place… for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States.”

Context and Reactions

Authorities have said the suspect in the incident had expressed intent to target Trump administration officials. In an interview, Trump described the individual as troubled and referenced a manifesto outlining those intentions.

Springsteen has previously been critical of the administration, particularly on issues such as immigration policy and political rhetoric. His remarks came as part of his ongoing “Land of Hope and Dreams” American tour, which he has said focuses on themes of democracy, freedom, and constitutional values.
