Dispute follows Senate floor remarks made during debate over Republican-backed funding proposal.

Donald Trump on Thursday publicly called on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to apologize after remarks criticizing federal immigration enforcement agencies during a Senate debate.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump objected to Schumer’s statement regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol, writing, “Wow! Cryin’ Chuck Schumer just said, for the whole World to hear, that ‘NOBODY RESPECTS BORDER PATROL OR ICE.’” He continued, “That is one of the most egregious, incorrect, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements I have EVER heard from a ‘professional’ politician. HE MUST IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZE TO THESE GREAT PATRIOTS, AND I MEAN NOW!”
Schumer made the comments while speaking on the Senate floor in opposition to a Republican-led funding proposal that includes increased resources for immigration enforcement. In remarks shared in a video clip, Schumer said, “Adding $140 billion to an agency, to two groups, Border Patrol and ICE, that nobody respects in this country.”
The exchange comes as congressional Republicans advance a reconciliation measure aimed at boosting funding for immigration enforcement agencies without requiring Democratic support. The proposal has drawn opposition from Democratic lawmakers, who have raised concerns about the scale and direction of the funding increases.
The disagreement highlights ongoing divisions in Washington over immigration policy and federal resource allocation, particularly as lawmakers debate enforcement priorities and border security measures.
