San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will not return for the remainder of Tuesday night’s first round NBA playoff game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Wembanyama was placed in the league’s concussion protocol after taking a hard fall, which led to his jaw hitting the court hard, while chasing a loose ball during the 2nd quarter.
An injury timeout request was issued by head coach Mitch Johnson.
Wembanyama scored 5 points alongside 4 rebounds before leaving the court of Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The Spurs are in the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2019 and defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 111-98 in Game 1 of their first round playoff series.
Wembanyama was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, April 20.
This is a developing story.
