Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

DEAR BONNIE: I have been going through a lot lately, a lot of changes. I recently moved to be near my grandchildren so I am in a different part of the country and I cannot wrap my feelings around this change at this time in my life. I felt it was a divinely guided move but still I wake up each morning feeling a little lost. If my move was blessed by the divine which I feel it was, why is this so hard on me? Thanks, Betsy

DEAR BETSY: Growth and change are not only natural parts of life — they are deeply spiritual processes guided by God. The truth that “there can be no growth without change” reflects the way God gently, and sometimes powerfully, moves us into greater alignment with our purpose. While change often feels uncomfortable, that discomfort is not without meaning; it is often the very space where God is working within us.

As human beings, we naturally seek comfort and stability. We build routines, relationships, and identities that feel safe. Yet God does not call us to remain stagnant. Instead he calls us to grow to expand and to become more of who we are meant to be. When change enters our lives whether expected or sudden it can shake our sense of security. We may feel uncertain, fearful or even resistant. But in those moments God is often inviting us to trust him more deeply.

Discomfort is not a sign of abandonment: it is often a sign of transformation. Just as a seed must break open to grow into something greater we too must move through periods of stretching and unknown. God uses these moments to refine us to release what no longer serves us and to strengthen our faith. What feels like disruption is often divine redirection.

When we resist change we may unintentionally resist the very growth God is offering us. But when we surrender—when we trust that God is guiding each step — we begin to see change differently. It becomes less about loss and more about becoming. Even in the most challenging transitions there is a deeper purpose of unfolding.

Through change, God teaches us resilience, patience and faith. We learn that we are not alone in the unknown. Each time we move through discomfort with trust our relationship with God deepens. We begin to recognize his presence not only in moments of peace but also in moments of uncertainty.

Ultimately spiritual growth requires us to let go of the old so we can step into the new. God does not change us to harm us  but to elevate us — to bring us closer to our highest self and divine purpose. Though the process may feel uncomfortable it is sacred.

In trusting God through change we allow ourselves to evolve. And in that evolution we discover that growth is not just about becoming more — it is about becoming who God created us to be.

So I would ask you Betsy to hold onto your faith in the divine and give God a chance to rebuild a new direction in your life. We cannot always see the bigger picture but I assure you there is one. Have patience and Faith as God’s plan for you reveals itself.
