President Donald Trump said Monday that Israel did not influence his decision to engage militarily with Iran, stating instead that the October 7 attack and his long-held position on Iran’s nuclear program were the determining factors.
In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump rejected claims that the Israeli government persuaded him to take action against Tehran.
“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did,” Trump wrote.

His remarks come amid ongoing scrutiny over the origins of the conflict and speculation about the role of U.S. allies in shaping policy decisions. Trump also criticized media coverage and polling related to the issue, stating, “I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged.”
He further referenced international developments, adding that “the results in Iran will be amazing – And if Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!) are smart, Iran can have a great and prosperous future.”
Reporting on the statement noted that Trump has consistently emphasized preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons as a central objective, with the October 7, 2023 attack reinforcing that position rather than altering it .
The comments come as tensions remain high in the region and diplomatic efforts continue, with uncertainty surrounding future negotiations involving Iran.
