A violent shooting at a high school in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday left at least 16 people injured before the suspected attacker, an 18-year-old former student, died by suicide, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the town of Siverek, located in Sanliurfa Province, where the gunman reportedly entered a vocational high school armed with a shotgun and began firing indiscriminately.

Attack Unfolds Inside School Grounds

According to Governor Hasan Sildak, the attacker opened fire randomly on students and staff before retreating deeper into the school building. The sudden burst of violence triggered panic, with students and faculty scrambling to escape the परिसर as shots rang out.

Officials confirmed that several of the wounded—particularly students and teachers with more serious injuries—were transferred to hospitals in the provincial capital for advanced care. While the majority are reported to be in stable condition, some remain under close medical supervision.

Panic and Swift Evacuation

Witness footage from the scene showed chaotic moments as dozens of students fled the school building, running toward the gates and into surrounding streets in search of safety. Teachers and staff worked quickly to assist in evacuations while emergency services secured the area.

Law enforcement agencies established a perimeter around the school as the situation unfolded, ensuring that all students were safely evacuated before conducting a sweep of the परिसर.
