Pop icon Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility, according to her representative, in a move that follows recent legal troubles and mounting public concern about her well-being.

No further details were provided about the location or nature of the treatment. However, celebrity news outlet TMZ reported that the 44-year-old singer had entered a rehabilitation centre in the United States for substance abuse, citing sources familiar with the situation.

The development comes weeks after Spears was arrested in March in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, her representative described the incident as “completely inexcusable,” adding that it could mark the beginning of “long overdue change” in her life.

In recent months, Spears has drawn widespread attention for her social media activity, particularly videos showing her dancing alone at home. One such clip, featuring her holding knives later said to be fake, sparked concern among fans. Her most recent post, shared Saturday, continued the trend, while an earlier message reflected on the “fragility” of her personal struggles.

Spears rose to global fame in the late 1990s as the “Princess of Pop,” but her career has long been punctuated by personal challenges, including a widely publicised breakdown in 2007.

In 2021, she regained control over her personal and financial affairs after the end of a 13 -year conservatorship. She shares two adult sons with her former husband, Kevin Federline.
