Mark Rutte is scheduled to travel to Washington on April 8 for meetings with President Donald Trump and senior U.S. officials, according to reporting on the visit.

The visit comes during a period of heightened strain between the United States and the NATO alliance, as Trump has intensified criticism of member nations over their level of support in the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Trump has raised concerns about what he describes as insufficient backing from NATO partners in relation to U.S. and Israeli military operations. He has also suggested the possibility of withdrawing the United States from the alliance, a step that would require approval from two-thirds of the U.S. Senate.

During his trip, Rutte is also expected to meet with Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth to discuss alliance priorities and ongoing security developments.

The meetings are set against a backdrop of evolving geopolitical tensions and internal debate within NATO over burden-sharing, military commitments, and coordination among member states.
