Pam Bondi issued a public statement Thursday following her removal as attorney general, confirming she will assist with the transition of leadership at the Department of Justice before moving into a private-sector role.
President Donald Trump said in a statement that Bondi would be departing the administration and taking on a new position outside government. “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump said, adding that she oversaw a period of declining crime rates and would soon transition to “a much needed and important new job in the private sector.”
Bondi confirmed she will spend the coming weeks ensuring a smooth handoff to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who will assume the role on an interim basis.
“Over the next month I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration,” Bondi said.
She described her tenure as a defining period for the Justice Department, stating, “Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history.”
Bondi cited a series of achievements during her time in office, including reductions in violent crime, prosecutions tied to domestic extremism, and enforcement actions targeting criminal organizations. “Since February 2025, we have secured the lowest murder rate in 125 years, secured first-ever terrorism convictions against members of Antifa, shattered domestic and transnational gangs across the country, taken custody of more than 90 key cartel figures, and won 24 favorable rulings at the Supreme Court,” she said.
She added, “I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.”
Blanche, who will serve as acting attorney general, expressed appreciation for Bondi’s leadership in a statement, saying, “Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship.”
He added, “Thank you to President Trump for the trust and the opportunity to serve as Acting Attorney General. We will continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing everything in our power to keep America safe.”
The leadership change follows reports that the administration had been evaluating potential replacements, with Lee Zeldin among those under consideration. Officials have not announced a permanent successor.
Bondi had accompanied the president during public events earlier in the week before her departure was confirmed. The Justice Department has not issued additional comment beyond the statements released by administration officials.
The transition places Blanche at the helm of the department as the administration continues to oversee federal law enforcement operations and ongoing legal matters.
