Newly released police bodycam footage shows golf star Tiger Woods being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, with officers placing him in handcuffs during the roadside encounter.

According to a report by TMZ Sports, Woods told officers during the interaction, “I looked down at my phone and all of a sudden, boom.” He also acknowledged that authorities wanted him evaluated by medical personnel at the scene.

The footage shows officers searching Woods’ pockets, removing items including lip balm, his wallet, and pills later identified as hydrocodone. Police said in their report that Woods displayed “severe signs of impairment,” describing him as “lethargic and slow,” with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes that were “extremely dilated,” while also noting he remained “extremely alert” during the encounter.

Woods has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Following the arrest, Woods released a statement addressing the situation and outlining his next steps.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” Woods said.

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.”

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the timeline of the case.
