Pam Bondi is no longer serving as attorney general following internal discussions with President Donald Trump, according to sources familiar with the matter, as leadership at the Justice Department undergoes transition.

The change follows reported concerns from the president regarding the pace of prosecutorial actions and broader handling of key investigations. Individuals familiar with the discussions said Trump had recently raised the possibility of replacing Bondi and spoke with her directly earlier this week. One source described the conversation as “tough,” indicating that a transition in leadership was imminent.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will assume duties as acting attorney general, according to reporting cited by CNN. The Justice Department has not issued a public statement regarding the transition.

Sources said Bondi may be considered for another position following her departure, with discussions reportedly including the possibility of a judicial role. No official announcement regarding a future position has been made.

The president’s concerns reportedly extended beyond prosecutorial timelines to include the handling of matters related to Jeffrey Epstein and investigations involving political figures. Among the issues under review is whether former John Brennan made false statements to Congress regarding intelligence findings tied to the 2016 election. Prosecutors in Miami have reportedly evaluated aspects of that case, while it remains under consideration for potential action in Washington.

Bondi attended the president’s national address on Wednesday prior to the reported transition.

In a statement released Thursday, Trump acknowledged Bondi’s tenure and expressed support for her. “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” he said. “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900.”

He added that Bondi would transition to a role in the private sector, with further details to be announced at a later date. Trump also confirmed the interim appointment of Blanche, describing him as “a very talented and respected Legal Mind.”

The leadership change marks a shift at the Justice Department as the administration continues to address ongoing investigations and legal priorities.
