A newly released sheriff’s report states that professional golfer Tiger Woods showed signs of impairment and was found with prescription medication following a car crash in Florida last week.
According to the incident report from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed Woods with bloodshot and glassy eyes, dilated pupils, and slow, lethargic movements when they arrived at the scene. The report also noted that he was sweating and acknowledged taking prescription medication earlier that morning.
Deputies recovered two white pills from Woods’ pocket, later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid commonly prescribed for pain management. When asked about medication use, Woods told authorities, “I take a few.”
The report states that Woods told deputies he had been looking at his phone and adjusting the radio prior to the crash. Authorities said his vehicle, a Land Rover, struck a truck while traveling at high speed on a residential road on Jupiter Island before rolling onto its side.
Damage to the other vehicle was estimated at $5,000. The driver of the truck, along with another individual, assisted Woods in exiting his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
During a field sobriety test, deputies noted that Woods appeared unsteady and was limping. He explained that he has undergone multiple back and leg surgeries and experiences stiffness in his ankle while walking. The report also states that Woods was hiccupping during questioning and had difficulty maintaining head position during testing instructions.
“Based on my observations of Woods, how he performed the exercises and based on my training, knowledge, and experience, I believed that Woods normal faculties were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle,” the deputy wrote.
Woods agreed to a breath test, which showed no presence of alcohol, but declined to submit to a urine test, according to authorities.
He was arrested at the scene and later released on bail after approximately eight hours in custody. Woods has been charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to comply with a lawful test.
Court records indicate he is scheduled for arraignment on April 23. An attorney has not yet been listed in the case.
Representatives for Woods and his affiliated organizations have not publicly commented on the incident.
