Tim Walz said Saturday that his administration would “never leave the side” of Somali residents in Minnesota during remarks at a “No Kings” protest in Minneapolis, according to a report by Mediaite.

Addressing the crowd, Walz described the Somali community as “seen, heard, valued, and loved,” and pledged continued support.

“I will add a special, a special thank you, and a special acknowledgement that we will never leave the side of our Somali Minnesotans,” Walz said. “Here’s our pledge to you, our Somali Minnesotans: your great-grandchildren will still be here when that orange clown is in the dustbin of history.”

The remarks were delivered as part of a larger demonstration held in Minneapolis, where participants gathered for the “No Kings” protest.

Walz’s comments come amid ongoing scrutiny tied to fraud investigations in Minnesota involving federally funded programs. Reports and court records have detailed multiple cases in which individuals were charged in connection with schemes involving public funds, including programs related to food assistance, healthcare, and childcare services.

Separately, citizen journalist Nick Shirley published a video in December showing visits to several daycare centers that had reportedly received federal funding, where no children were observed at the time of filming.

Donald Trump has previously stated that his administration would seek to cut off funding tied to fraudulent activity, including cases connected to Somali-related programs in multiple states. He has also claimed that billions of dollars were improperly obtained through such schemes.

Investigations and prosecutions related to fraud cases in Minnesota remain ongoing.
