Shares of US space companies soared on Wednesday after reports that Elon Musk’s SpaceX could file for a stock market listing within days, sparking excitement across the fast-growing sector.
Rocket makers Firefly Aerospace and Rocket Lab saw their stock prices climb by more than 10%, while other space-related firms also recorded strong gains. The surge follows a report by The Information that SpaceX may soon begin the process for an initial public offering (IPO).
SpaceX is expected to go public later this year with a valuation of about $1.75 trillion, potentially raising more than $75 billion. If confirmed, the listing would mark the largest IPO in history. The company has not yet publicly commented on the report.
Investor enthusiasm spread across the industry, with Intuitive Machines jumping nearly 15%, Planet Labs rising over 10%, and Sidus Space gaining close to 19%. Shares of AST SpaceMobile also climbed by around 10%.
Founded in 2002, SpaceX has grown into a dominant force in the aerospace industry, securing billions of dollars in US government contracts and advancing commercial space travel. The company also operates Starlink, which delivers broadband internet worldwide.
Musk, who also leads Tesla, X and Neuralink, could see his wealth surge further if the IPO proceeds. According to Forbes, his net worth already exceeds $820 billion.
Analysts say the potential listing could reshape global markets—and possibly make Musk the world’s first trillionaire.
