President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he may deploy National Guard personnel to assist federal operations at airports as the partial government shutdown continues to impact staffing and travel conditions.
In a series of statements shared on Truth Social, Trump attributed airport delays to the ongoing funding impasse and criticized Democrats over the situation.
“Blame the Democrats for the Airport’s mess,” Trump said, adding, “They want our Country to do badly. They want our Country to fail.”
The president said Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have already been deployed to assist with operations at airports and credited their efforts with helping address disruptions.
He added that additional measures remain under consideration.
“I may call up the National Guard for more help,” Trump said.
The comments come as the shutdown continues to affect the Department of Homeland Security, including reduced staffing levels at the Transportation Security Administration. Reports have indicated extended wait times at several major airports during a high-volume travel period.
In a separate post, Trump said Democrats have not agreed to a funding deal without including broader immigration provisions, writing on Truth Social, “The Democrats don’t want to make any deal unless Amnesty and Citizenship is given to millions of Criminals who have entered our Country illegally. PROTECT AMERICA!”
Administration officials have stated that ICE personnel are available and funded to assist in airport operations, describing their deployment as a step to maintain security and reduce congestion.
Trump also referenced broader geopolitical developments in another post, stating on Truth Social that, “The Radical Left, Country Hating Democrats are trying to create inner chaos to take away from the great military achievement we are having in Iran.”
Federal officials have not announced a formal deployment of National Guard units to airports. The president’s remarks indicate the option remains under consideration as the shutdown continues and negotiations over federal funding remain unresolved.
