Iran has presented a five-point counterproposal after declining a ceasefire offer from the United States, outlining its own conditions for ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Details of the response were shared publicly by the Iranian embassy in Mumbai, which posted the framework Wednesday.
According to the statement, Iran’s terms include:
- An immediate halt to U.S. military operations and targeted killings of government officials
- Assurances that future conflicts will not be initiated
- Payment of reparations tied to the current conflict
- A complete end to hostilities across all fronts, including actions involving affiliated groups
- Recognition of Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz
The counterproposal follows a U.S. plan that included multiple conditions tied to Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities. Under that proposal, Iran would have been required to scale back nuclear-related activities and engage in further negotiations on its ballistic missile program. In exchange, the United States offered to lift sanctions and move toward ending the conflict.
Iran rejected those terms and issued its own framework in response.
The administration has not formally responded to the counterproposal, though officials are expected to review the conditions as the conflict continues.
