The story of forced organ harvesting in China did not begin with Killed to Order.

It began years earlier, when David Kilgour and David Matas published Bloody Harvest—an investigation built on transplant data anomalies, recorded calls, and witness accounts. Their findings raised a question the world could not easily answer: Could people really be killed for their organs on such a scale?

That question became harder to ignore with The Slaughter by Ethan Gutmann, which brought forward testimonies from former detainees—individuals subjected to medical tests that appeared designed not for treatment, but for organ matching.

A pattern was emerging

Forced organ harvesting is not a complex idea. It is brutally simple: killing people for their organs and turning it into an industry.

Investigations over nearly two decades point to prisoners of conscience—especially Falun Gong practitioners—as primary victims. Following the ban on Falun Gong on 20 July 1999, what began as persecution appears to have evolved into something far more systematic.

One statistic captures the scale of the anomaly: hundreds of transplants performed within days, despite only a handful of officially recorded donors.

And then there were the phone calls.

Hospitals and detention facilities, when contacted, reportedly confirmed the availability of organs from Falun Gong practitioners—described by age and health, as if they were inventory.

“We have several… healthy… you can come and choose.”

At that point, the issue was no longer speculation.

Killed to Order: the shift

Killed to Order does something different.

Earlier works asked: Is this happening?
Then: How is this happening?

This book asks: What does it mean that this has been exposed—and still continues?

It brings together years of evidence and presents a disturbing possibility: that this is not a series of abuses, but a system—one involving detention centres, hospitals, and state structures working in coordination.

And in doing so, it shifts the burden.

If the world has already been told this story—through Bloody Harvest, The Slaughter, and numerous investigations—then the question is no longer about awareness.

It is about response.

Silence is not neutral. Hesitation has consequences.
