Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected allegations that Israel pressured the United States into entering the war with Iran, calling the claims false and defending President Donald Trump’s decision-making authority.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, Netanyahu dismissed assertions circulating among political commentators and former officials that Israel influenced U.S. military involvement, including claims amplified in an X post. The remarks follow criticism from former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who, according to a report on his resignation, argued the conflict was driven by “pressure from Israel” and its “powerful American lobby.”
Netanyahu said such accusations misrepresent the nature of U.S.-Israel relations and characterized them as misinformation. He directly challenged the premise that President Trump could be directed by foreign leaders.
“Does anyone really think someone can tell President Trump what to do?” Netanyahu said, emphasizing that Trump makes decisions based on what he believes serves American interests and future generations.
The comments come amid divisions among some conservative figures over the ongoing conflict, even as broader Republican support for Trump’s actions remains intact.
Video from the press conference circulating online shows Netanyahu reiterating that the United States acts independently in its foreign policy decisions. In the clip shared on X, he described the narrative that Israel compelled U.S. involvement as “fake news.”
Netanyahu’s remarks also coincide with recent developments in the conflict, including Israeli strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas field. In response to those events, Trump stated in a Truth Social post that no further attacks would occur on the site unless Iran escalates by targeting Qatar, warning that any such move would trigger a significant U.S. response.
The Israeli leader’s statements aim to counter growing claims about foreign influence over U.S. policy as the war continues and tensions escalate across the region.
