Media commentator Tucker Carlson said U.S. intelligence officials accessed his private communications while preparing what he described as a potential criminal referral involving the Foreign Agents Registration Act, while activist Laura Loomer said publicly that she had urged federal authorities to investigate him.
Carlson made the claims in a video published on X, where he asserted that intelligence officials had reviewed his text messages after he communicated with individuals in Iran prior to a conflict in the region. The remarks appeared in a video shared on the platform and circulated widely online, which can be viewed in this video posted to X.
In the video, Carlson said the review of his communications was connected to an effort to build a criminal case under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Carlson said he was not concerned about the possibility of charges.
“One, I’m not an agent of a foreign power. Unlike a lot of people, commenting on US politics and global affairs, I have only one loyalty, and that’s the United States and have never acted against it. Its interests are the only interests I care about because I’m from here and I have a lot of kids, so that’s not a concern. I’ve also never taken money from anybody. Don’t need it, don’t want it, and that’s provable,” Carlson said.
He said communicating with international sources is part of his professional work.
“And moreover, it’s my job to talk to everybody all the time and try and figure out what’s happening around the world. That’s literally what I do for a living. And I’m not going to stop doing that, nor should I, I don’t think. I’m also an American. I can talk to anybody. I have no secrets to divulge. So, legally, I think the case is ludicrous, and I doubt it will even become a case.”
Carlson also said that individuals upset with his positions regarding Israel were attempting to initiate legal action against him.
He described the situation as part of what he characterized as a broader effort to publicly pressure him.
“None of this, in my judgment, as of right now, is a huge threat to me. So, I’m not making this video to complain about it or whine or ask you to send me money because I’m under attack. I’m saying it because it’s true, and you should know what your own government is doing, and you should know what the stakes are, and you should know that a lot of what happens in this country that affects outcomes happens behind the scenes. Some of it is legal; some of it is not, including what I’m describing now, but it has an effect,” Carlson said.
He added that the situation reminded him of political controversies that arose during the Russia investigation involving President Donald Trump.
Separately, Loomer said on X that she had contacted lawmakers and federal authorities regarding Carlson and urged them to pursue an investigation. Her remarks were published in this statement on X.
“If Tucker Qatarlson gets charged for violating FARA and or leaking information to Russia, Saudi Arabia Iran or Qatar, I’m taking credit.
“Islamic sympathizers always project onto others what they are likely guilty of.
“You have no idea how relentless I have been in speaking to GOP reps and even reporting Tucker to law enforcement and the DOJ.
“I pray my efforts are successful.
“Tucker says the CIA read his texts to ‘set him up’ for a crime.
“Sounds like someone is trying to get ahead of a story. Lock him up!” Loomer wrote.
Loomer later said she had compiled a list of conservative commentators whom she believes may also be receiving funds from foreign governments and said she shared supporting information with federal investigators. Her comments appeared in another post on X.
“I have created a list of Consevative influencers who I believe are taking money from Iran, Russia and Qatar. I have attached my supporting evidence. As I told the DOJ, Tucker Carlson isn’t the only person who is likely violating FARA. All of these traitors deserve jail time,” Loomer wrote.
The exchange of statements between Carlson and Loomer unfolded publicly on X as discussion continued online regarding the potential for any federal investigation related to the foreign lobbying law.
