A stuffed animal has met a tragic, fluffy end at an Ohio sheriff's office, and the prime suspect is already on the payroll.

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office recently launched a hilarious "investigation" after deputies stumbled upon the ruined remains of a stuffed lamb toy inside their station.

Detailing the shocking discovery on social media, the department described the aftermath: "The scene was disturbing". They elaborated, "Stuffing is scattered across the floor. Lamby was fully compromised. There were zero signs of forced entry".

With no evidence of a break-in, the clues quickly pointed to K9 Deputy Moby. Officials jokingly speculated that the dog had been left unattended for about 42 seconds, giving him just enough time to succumb to the temptation of the plush toy's hidden squeaker.

When brought in for questioning, the furry suspect played hardball. The sheriff's office reported, "Deputy Moby refused to answer questions, citing an ongoing squeaker investigation, and reminded deputies he is 'innocent until proven fetchable,' ". To make matters even funnier, "He then demanded belly rubs and representation".

Fortunately, the internet immediately rushed to Moby's defense. Fans began flooding the station with packages full of treats and toys, including a brand-new stuffed lamb for the dog to enjoy. Moby was soon pictured surrounded by a growing pile of generous gifts.

Despite the ongoing "scandal," the beloved K9 is back to his usual duties. The department happily shared that "Moby is currently very busy handling important jail business such as supervising naps, sniffing out treats, and being told he is the 'goodest boy' around".
