Iran has escalated its campaign of missiles and low-cost drones across the Middle East, with the United Arab Emirates — a nation that has transformed into a global hub of innovation and prosperity over the past two decades under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — now squarely in its crosshairs.

On Tuesday, the UAE’s air defense systems detected and tracked 9 Iranian ballistic missiles along with 35 drones.

Eight of the missiles were successfully intercepted, while one landed harmlessly in the sea. Of the 35 drones, 26 were shot down, though 9 impacted UAE territory, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defense.

The attacks have not been limited to the Emirates. Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry reported intercepting and destroying a drone targeting the Shaybah oil field, while additional drones aimed at its embassy district were also neutralized, AFP reported.

In related maritime incidents, an unidentified projectile struck a container ship approximately 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali, sparking a small fire, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed via Reuters.

Meanwhile, twin drone incidents rattled Dubai: one near the iconic Burj Khalifa and another causing a “very loud explosion” that echoed across the city.

Reports of massive chaos at Dubai International Airport followed, with tourists and expatriates fleeing amid fears of further strikes.

These developments come amid a broader wave of Iranian aggression that has already claimed six lives — including Emirati, Pakistani, Nepali, and Bangladeshi nationals — and left 122 people with minor to moderate injuries.

The UAE Ministry of Defense (@modgovae on X) has been providing real-time updates, confirming that the audible explosions and sonic booms across the country are the direct result of its air defense systems and fighter jets successfully intercepting incoming threats.

Since February 28, the UAE has demonstrated resolute and highly effective defensive actions in response to the Iranian onslaught. Its air defense networks have engaged and neutralized hundreds of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and UAVs — with cumulative figures showing over 260 ballistic missiles and more than 1,500 drones intercepted to date.

The Ministry has maintained full operational readiness, issued transparent daily briefings to reassure the public, and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, stability, and the safety of all residents, while senior military officials have also honored fallen service members through official condolences and funerals.

“Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, offered condolences to the family of the UAE martyr, First Lieutenant Ali Saleh Al Taniji, who was martyred following a vertical aircraft crash due to a technical malfunction while performing his national duty in the country,” said UAE Defense Ministry. “The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces also prayed to Allah Almighty to envelop the martyr in His vast mercy, beseeching the Lord to grant him residence in the spacious gardens of Paradise among the martyrs and the righteous, and to inspire his family with patience and solace.”

The UAE remains on high alert, with its sophisticated multi-layered defenses continuing to shield the nation as it navigates this unprecedented challenge.
