The conflict with Iran continues to escalate, and according to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the military campaign against Tehran is having a major impact on the country’s ability to wage war.
Speaking during a Pentagon briefing this week, Hegseth said Iran’s military capabilities are “being systematically degraded and annihilated” as U.S. and allied forces carry out ongoing strikes across the region.
The statement comes as the United States continues Operation Epic Fury, a multi-day military campaign targeting Iran’s missile systems, naval assets, drone infrastructure, and command facilities.
According to Pentagon officials, hundreds of strategic targets have already been hit.
Military leaders say the operation has significantly weakened Iran’s ability to launch attacks in the region. U.S. Central Command reported sharp declines in missile launches and drone strikes following the early waves of the campaign.
Strikes Target Military Infrastructure
Officials say the campaign is focused on dismantling the core pillars of Iran’s military capability.
Targets have included missile production facilities, naval bases, drone launch sites, and command centers used to coordinate attacks. Pentagon briefings also confirmed that dozens of Iranian naval vessels have been destroyed during the operation.
Hegseth described the strikes as precise and overwhelming, saying U.S. forces are working to eliminate threats to American troops and allies across the Middle East.
“This is about defending American lives and dismantling the infrastructure used to attack our forces,” Hegseth said during the briefing.
The Pentagon has emphasized that the mission’s primary goals are to neutralize Iran’s missile capabilities, cripple its naval power, and prevent further escalation in the region.
Iran Continues to Respond
Despite the damage to its military infrastructure, Iran has continued launching missile and drone attacks against U.S. allies and military positions across the region.
Pentagon officials say the conflict has already resulted in injuries to American service members and retaliatory strikes from Iranian forces.
Military analysts warn that while Iran’s capabilities may be weakened, the conflict is far from over.
Even degraded military forces can still carry out attacks, particularly through proxy groups and regional allies.
A Broader Strategy
The military campaign is unfolding under the leadership of Donald Trump, who has argued that confronting Iran now could prevent larger conflicts in the future.
Administration officials say the strategy is designed to remove long-standing threats posed by Iran’s missile program and regional military operations.
Supporters believe the campaign could permanently reshape the balance of power in the Middle East.
Critics, however,
