The Dollar’s Debasement Is Destroying the American Dream – Time for Sound Money and Real Freedom

By Timothy M Flannery

The U.S. dollar has lost more than 98 percent of its purchasing power since the Federal Reserve was created in 1913. Today, in March 2026, we are living through another accelerated phase of that debasement. Inflation is quietly stealing the value of savings, wages, and everything Americans have worked for. This is not just an economic issue. It is a direct attack on the American Dream and the freedom that dream was built upon.

No system is perfect. Everyone struggles with the consequences of bad decisions. But the endless printing of money by unelected bureaucrats at the Federal Reserve has created massive inequality. It rewards speculation over productive work and punishes the very people who built this country. Doug Casey explains it perfectly on International Man: inflation and currency debasement enrich asset owners in the short run while eroding wage earners’ purchasing power, widening inequality and accelerating political “solutions” like socialism, populism, capital controls, and wealth taxes (Casey, 2026). Casey warns that governments everywhere are bankrupt, and the U.S. federal government is no exception. This is exactly why we see rising calls for wealth taxes and more government control. The debasement fuels the very problems it claims to solve.

Ron Paul has warned for decades that the Federal Reserve is unconstitutional and that its money printing is the root of our economic problems. He has long advocated for sound money, an end to the Fed, and a return to gold as real money instead of fiat paper. His message is clear: without honest money, we cannot have honest freedom or lasting prosperity (Paul, 2009).

Conservative voices on social media are echoing these truths. On X, one user posted, “The dollar is being destroyed on purpose. Sound money is the only way to protect American families from the elites who print to enrich themselves” (AmericaFirstNow, 2026). Another wrote, “Inflation is a hidden tax on the working class. America First means ending the Fed’s money printing monopoly” (MadeInUSA2026, 2026). On Truth Social, a supporter noted, “Doug Casey and Ron Paul are right, the dollar’s debasement is the root of our problems. We need honest money to restore honest freedom” (PatriotWorker45, 2026). And on Gettr, one comment captured it well, “Patriotism includes defending the value of our labor. Stop the printing, restore the dollar, save the American Dream” (USJobsMatter, 2026). Millions of Americans are waking up.

We can acknowledge the short-term pain that comes with any major reform. Transitioning to sound money would require discipline and difficult choices. But the alternative is continued erosion of our standard of living, more government control, and the eventual loss of the very liberty that makes America exceptional. Prioritizing sound money and limited government is not extreme. It is the most patriotic thing we can do for our children and grandchildren.

Bottom Line The Federal Reserve’s money printing is quietly destroying the American Dream. It punishes savers, rewards speculators, and paves the way for socialism and wealth taxes. America First means returning to sound money so our citizens can keep the fruits of their labor, and our country can remain free and prosperous. The time to act is now.
