Footage shared early Monday on social media appears to capture the first combat use of Israel’s Iron Beam laser air-defense system, reportedly intercepting aerial threats launched by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon.

The video, initially posted by Israel War Room on X, shows what is described as a high-energy laser system destroying an incoming drone overnight along Israel’s northern border. In its post, Israel War Room declared: “HISTORIC: For the first time ever, Israel used the Iron Beam to intercept rockets fired by Hezbollah.” The original post can be viewed here.

If confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces, the event would mark the first known operational deployment of Iron Beam within Israel’s active air-defense network. The system was delivered to the Israeli Air Force in late December 2025 after more than a decade of development and live-fire testing against rockets, mortars and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Iron Beam was first unveiled in 2014 and officially entered service with Israeli forces on December 28, 2025. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in cooperation with Elbit Systems, the system represents a shift in counter-rocket, artillery, mortar and UAV defense capabilities.

Unlike kinetic interceptor platforms such as Iron Dome, Iron Beam uses a high-energy directed laser designed to neutralize threats by heating and structurally disabling targets mid-flight. The laser operates at the speed of light and is intended to provide a lower-cost alternative for intercepting short-range projectiles and drones.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee amplified the footage by reposting it on X, praising the system’s effectiveness. His message read: “Hezbollah gives IDF an opportunity to successfully test their new laser Iron Beam technology. Been in shelter twice in last hour. Grateful for Israeli innovation this morning.” His post is available here.

The reported interception occurred amid renewed cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. While Israeli officials have not yet released a formal operational confirmation of the specific engagement shown in the video, the circulating footage has drawn widespread attention as a potential milestone in the evolution of directed-energy air defense systems.

Iron Beam is designed to integrate alongside existing Israeli defensive platforms, including Iron Dome and other layered systems, forming a comprehensive shield against rockets, drones and artillery fire.

As hostilities continue along Israel’s northern frontier, defense analysts are closely watching for official confirmation and further operational details regarding the laser system’s performance in active combat conditions.
