Former President Bill Clinton released a video statement Friday evening after completing a seven-hour closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee regarding his past association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Clinton testified earlier in the day from an office in Chappaqua, New York, as part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into Epstein’s network and related matters.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told reporters that during questioning, Clinton stated that, to his knowledge, President Donald Trump was not involved with Epstein.

“Trump has never said anything to me to make me think he was involved with Epstein,” Comer said.

According to Fox News, Clinton’s attorneys intervened multiple times during the deposition to limit certain responses.

In his evening video statement, Clinton addressed the testimony directly.

“I just finished testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee. I did it for two reasons. First, I love my country, including our Constitution. And America was built on the idea that no person is above the law. Even presidents. Especially presidents and that we should all live under the same set of rules,” Clinton said.

He reiterated that his interactions with Epstein were limited and occurred years before the financier’s criminal activities became publicly known.

“Though my brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light, and though I never witnessed during our limited interactions any indication of what was truly going on, I offered the little I do know in hopes that it might prevent anything like this from ever happening again,” Clinton said.

“I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didn’t see. And I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do,” he added, echoing language he used in his opening statement to the committee.

Clinton also criticized the committee’s decision to depose former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who testified the previous day.

“I also have to say something personal. Republicans made Hillary testify yesterday and she had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein, nothing. She has no memory of even meeting him,” Clinton said.

Earlier Friday, President Trump commented on the deposition while speaking to reporters.

“I don’t like seeing him deposed, but they certainly went after me a lot more than that,” Trump said.

The Oversight Committee has indicated that video and transcript materials from the depositions may be released following review.
