A closed session of Hillary Clinton’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee was paused after a photograph taken inside the room was shared publicly, though proceedings later resumed.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee was temporarily halted Thursday after an unauthorized photograph from inside the hearing room was distributed publicly.
The session was paused after Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado sent a photograph of Clinton’s testimony to conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, who posted the image on X. The image appeared online during the confidential proceeding, prompting committee officials to briefly stop the deposition before later allowing it to continue.
Johnson shared the image on social media, crediting Boebert for providing it. In a subsequent post, he asserted that the photograph was permitted and suggested the controversy was being overstated. “It was authorized,” Johnson wrote. “And it’s hilarious they’re trying to use this to weasel out of answering questions on Epstein. It was Hillary who demanded this deposition be LIVE for all to see.”

Boebert later addressed the situation directly on X, stating, “Benny did nothing wrong. Proceeding with deposition,” in a post confirming that the hearing was continuing.
Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had previously requested that their testimony be conducted publicly if they were to participate. According to New York Times congressional correspondent Annie Karni, who wrote on X, the Clintons sought a public setting for their appearance, but Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer declined that request.
The Clintons agreed earlier this month to sit for depositions in connection with the committee’s inquiry into Jeffrey Epstein. Former President Bill Clinton’s name was referenced in materials released by the Department of Justice on Feb. 1, including a photograph depicting him seated in a hot tub with Epstein. The releases were part of a phased disclosure under The Epstein Files Transparency Act, legislation signed into law by President Donald Trump in November.
The Oversight Committee has been conducting depositions as part of its broader review of Epstein’s network and the federal government’s handling of investigations related to him. The committee did not immediately comment on whether any additional action would be taken regarding the distribution of the photograph during Clinton’s testimony.
