Just weeks after a devastating loss left fans heartbroken, Big Bear’s beloved bald eagle pair, Jackie and Shadow, are once again giving people something to celebrate.

The famous eagles — whose lives are followed by thousands through a livestream nest camera — have laid another egg, marking a hopeful new chapter after ravens destroyed their earlier clutch last month.

For many who have watched the pair raise eaglets over the years, the moment felt deeply symbolic: resilience after grief.

A Quiet Moment That Meant Everything

The new egg was revealed Tuesday afternoon when Jackie briefly stood up in the nest, allowing viewers to see it beneath her before she carefully settled back down to incubate it.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, video from the live nest camera captured the moment she stood, fluffed the nesting material and returned to cover the egg.

It is the first egg of her second clutch this season, following the loss of two eggs in January during a rare and troubling nest invasion.

The sight brought relief to longtime followers who had been anxiously waiting to see whether Jackie would lay again. Nesting season runs through April, meaning more eggs could still be possible.

The Heartbreaking Attack That Came Before

Last month’s tragedy unfolded while both eagles were away from the nest for several hours — something observers noted was unusual.

During that time, ravens approached and breached the eggs.

“It is with great sadness to report that both of Jackie and Shadow’s eggs were breached by ravens earlier today,” the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley wrote in its eagle-tracking blog Jan. 30.

The organization, which operates the nest camera, later shared possible explanations for why the pair may have left.

“We will never know why, but we are sure they had their reasons as they have been incubating the eggs faithfully,” the nonprofit said in a social media post last month, according to ABC7.

“It is possible Jackie and Shadow sensed something was wrong with the egg. They could have also been protecting their territory, as many other bald eagles have been seen in the valley recently.”

Observers had also noticed that one egg appeared cracked even before the attack, suggesting the parents may have detected a problem.

A Pair That Has Captured Hearts

Jackie and Shadow are not just any wild birds.

Over the years, the pair has become a symbol of resilience for wildlife lovers, raising multiple eaglets while viewers around the world watched in real time.

Last spring, they successfully welcomed two chicks, Sunny and Gizmo. They also hatched a third chick named Misty in 2025, who later died during a winter storm — another loss that deeply affected followers.

Because of that history, last month’s destruction felt especially painful for the community that has grown around the nest.

Waiting, Hoping — and Now, Renewed Possibility

Since the eggs were breached, fans had been watching closely, hoping Jackie might begin a second clutch.

Now, with a new egg beneath her, that hope has returned.

There are no guarantees in the wild, and the coming weeks will be critical. But for now, the devoted pair is doing what they have always done — returning to the nest, settling in together and trying again.

For thousands who tune in daily, that simple act carries a powerful message:

Even after loss, life can begin again.
