WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States reaffirmed its strong support for Kuwait as the Gulf nation marked its National Day and Liberation Day, highlighting what officials described as a longstanding and strategic partnership at a time of renewed regional sensitivity.
In a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State, Washington congratulated Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah and the Kuwaiti people, praising Kuwait’s role in promoting regional security and stability across the Middle East.
The statement emphasized Kuwait’s humanitarian contributions, including support for crisis-affected populations and participation in international peace efforts. U.S. officials also noted Kuwait’s pledge to assist in Gaza’s reconstruction and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade and investment ties between the two countries.
The message of solidarity comes as Iraq has reportedly raised territorial concerns at the United Nations, seeking additional land considerations related to its long-standing maritime and border issues with Kuwait. The territorial question between Iraq and Kuwait has historically been a sensitive matter dating back decades, though current diplomatic channels remain active.
While the U.S. statement did not directly address Iraq’s request, Washington reiterated its “enduring friendship and strategic partnership” with Kuwait, signaling continued American backing for the Gulf state amid regional developments.
The United States maintains close defense, economic, and diplomatic ties with Kuwait, viewing it as a key partner in Gulf security architecture.
