The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday when an armed individual drove into the secure perimeter of the Palm Beach, Florida property. Officials said the breach happened near the estate’s north gate as another vehicle was exiting.

Investigators confirmed Martin’s identity in reporting cited by the Associated Press. The New York Post published a photograph of Martin in its coverage, showing him with family members identified as Josh, Jacob and Melissa.

According to the New York Post, Martin’s family had been searching for him after he was reported missing Saturday night. The outlet reported that his social media accounts reflected a focus on artistic depictions of golf courses in North Carolina’s Sandhills region, including scenes believed to represent Quail Ridge Golf Course north of Cameron, where he lived. The posts reportedly featured watercolor paintings and black-and-white sketches accompanied by electronic music and limited online interaction.

U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said Martin had been reported missing by his family several days prior to the breach. Authorities believe he traveled south from North Carolina and obtained the firearm during the trip.

Law enforcement officials stated that Martin was armed with a shotgun and carrying a gas canister when he entered the secured area. He was confronted by two Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Martin was ordered to drop his equipment. Officials said he complied by putting down the gas canister but raised the shotgun into a firing position. Agents and the deputy then discharged their weapons, fatally wounding him.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were not present at the resort at the time of the incident. Officials confirmed they were at the White House.

Federal authorities, including the FBI, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the intrusion. Officials said they are working to determine Martin’s motive and develop a psychological profile as part of the active investigation.

At this time, authorities say there is no immediate indication that Martin was previously known to law enforcement, and investigators have not publicly identified a motive for the incident.

Residents in the surrounding Palm Beach area have been asked to review any available home surveillance footage that may assist investigators in retracing Martin’s movements prior to the breach.
