Australia’s Alexei Popyrin produced a commanding performance on Center Court, defeating M. Zayid 6–0, 6–2 in the Round of 32 of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2026 in just under an hour (58 minutes, 52 seconds) at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex in Doha on Monday.

From the opening game, Popyrin asserted control with his powerful serve and aggressive returning. The Australian struck five aces and landed 67.5% of his first serves, winning an outstanding 85.2% of those first-serve points. In contrast, Zayid managed to win just 42.9% on his first serve and struggled to find rhythm throughout the match.

Zayid’s difficulties were compounded by six double faults, which allowed Popyrin to maintain scoreboard pressure. The Australian converted five of eight break-point opportunities (62.5%), while Zayid was unable to capitalize on his only break chance.

The numbers underlined Popyrin’s dominance. He claimed 70% of the total points played (56 of 80) and won 77.5% of his service points, showcasing both efficiency and consistency. On return, Popyrin was equally sharp, winning 57.1% of first-serve return points and 68.4% of second-serve return points, constantly putting Zayid under strain.

For Popyrin, currently ranked No. 51 (as of February 2, 2026) this win snaps a difficult early-season stretch for the Australian, who had previously suffered first-round exits in Brisbane, Adelaide, and the Australian Open.

The straight-sets victory sends Popyrin comfortably into the next round, carrying strong momentum as the tournament progresses.  His next scheduled singles match at the 2026 Qatar ExxonMobil Open is in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, against a TBD opponent.

For Zayid, a local Qatari player entered the tournament as a wildcard and has primarily competed on the ITF circuit and in Davis Cup events.

Next Match: Popyrin is scheduled to play doubles alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas tomorrow, February 17, against the team of Jaume Munar and Tomáš Macháč.
