Federal authorities on Tuesday released newly recovered surveillance images and video depicting a masked individual outside the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, marking what investigators described as a potential development in the ongoing abduction investigation.
The FBI said the material was obtained after days of forensic work to retrieve data that may have been lost or damaged following the removal of recording devices from the residence. FBI Director Kash Patel said the footage was reconstructed from residual data stored in backend systems, after initial recordings were believed to be corrupted.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors — including the removal of recording devices,” Patel said in a public statement shared on social media. “The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”
Patel said that investigators uncovered images showing “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” adding that the footage had previously been inaccessible to law enforcement.
The newly released images show a masked person wearing gloves and carrying items that investigators believe may include tools or equipment. The FBI identified the individual only as a “subject” in the investigation and emphasized that the images are being released to solicit public assistance.

In a post published by the FBI director on X, the bureau said it is asking anyone with information related to the images or the individual depicted to contact federal authorities through established tip lines. The statement was shared alongside the newly released visuals in a post attributed to FBI Director Kash Patel.
Law enforcement officials had indicated earlier in the day that new surveillance material was expected to be made public. According to NBC News, two senior officials said investigators planned to release a surveillance image showing a potential subject connected to the case as early as Tuesday afternoon.
NBC News, citing a source familiar with the investigation, reported that the individual seen in the footage appears to be wearing a mask and carrying a backpack or tools. The network said the image quality is limited but that investigators believe public tips could help identify the person.
Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home last weekend, triggering a multi-agency search involving federal, state, and local authorities. Investigators have not released details about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, and no arrests have been announced.
The FBI said the investigation remains active and urged the public to review the images carefully and report any information that could assist in identifying the individual shown in the recovered footage.
