PEPPERELL — William Shakespeare famously said, “If music be the food of love, play on.” The Nissitissit String Quartet explores that sentiment in “For the Love of Music”, a concert to be performed from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Lawrence Library, 15 Main St.

Known for its wide-ranging repertoire, the quartet blends fiddle tunes, folk favorites, jazz standards, pop, rock, Broadway, Hollywood, and classical selections into a program centered on love, audience favorites, and returning requests.

The concert features romantic ballads, a Beatles-inspired set, a Broadway medley, Irish folk songs, lively fiddle pieces, Irish folk music, and upbeat selections designed to appeal to all.

Formed to champion string music and enrich Northwest Middlesex communities, the Nissitissit String Quartet is made up of four longtime colleagues and friends who share a passion for fresh, fun, and engaging performances.

Members include Lisa Kempskie, longtime principal violist of the Lexington Symphony; violinist Peter Stickel of the New England Tenors; educator and performer Valerie Callahan; and cellist John Bumstead, a Boston-area freelance musician and former UMass Lowell professor.

“We are looking forward to warming up with celebrated music about love, including an astonishing arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody, back in the Lawrence Library where the Nissitissit String Quartet was born in 2020,” said Peter Stickel.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with light refreshments available.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Pepperell Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Additional funding provided by the Friends of the Lawrence Library.
