The Department of Justice on Friday released more than three million pages of records related to Jeffrey Epstein, offering a detailed look at how the convicted sex offender maintained contact with prominent political operatives, technology leaders, future Cabinet officials, and foreign power brokers in the years surrounding his legal troubles.

The disclosure, issued in compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, was announced by the DOJ and made available through its Epstein records portal. The newly published material includes emails, text messages, travel coordination, and meeting requests involving figures such as former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, technology executive Elon Musk, future commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, and multiple European officials.

According to the released files, Epstein maintained extensive post-White House contact with Bannon, exchanging thousands of text messages and emails during 2018 and 2019. The correspondence reflects frequent communication after Bannon left government service, with discussions ranging from global politics and China policy to media strategy and personal travel.

In the exchanges, Epstein referenced his private aircraft, real estate holdings, and Caribbean island, and offered Bannon use of luxury properties and his jet. Epstein also complained about allegations against him while coordinating meetings and travel. The messages show Bannon advising Epstein on how to navigate growing media scrutiny as attention intensified on Epstein’s activities.

The documents also shed light on Epstein’s repeated attempts to cultivate a relationship with Musk. Emails from 2012 to 2014 show Epstein sought repeatedly to arrange meetings and travel with Musk, though Musk consistently declined, citing scheduling conflicts and logistical issues. The correspondence includes casual back-and-forth exchanges, social invitations, and mentions of dinners or trips to St. Thomas, but no records indicate that Musk ever met Epstein in person.

After the release, Musk commented publicly, writing that accountability depended on prosecutions rather than document disclosures. “What matters is not release of some subset of the Epstein files, but rather the prosecution of those who committed heinous crimes with Epstein,” he wrote. “When there is at least one arrest, some justice will have been done. If not, this is all performative. Nothing but a distraction.”

Beyond U.S. political and business figures, the records detail Epstein’s engagement with international leaders and intermediaries. The documents show him facilitating introductions and meetings for figures such as Bannon, exchanging messages with Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak that referenced interactions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and coordinating meetings involving former Norwegian prime minister Thorbjorn Jagland.

The release also includes correspondence involving Lutnick. Emails from 2012 show Epstein and Lutnick discussing a potential visit to Epstein’s Caribbean compound, including plans for a Dec. 23 lunch near Little St. James. The records describe logistical coordination over docking Lutnick’s 188-foot yacht while he was vacationing in St. Thomas with his wife, children, and friends. An aide later relayed a message from Epstein stating, “Nice to see you.”

Lutnick denied any substantive relationship with Epstein. “I spent zero time with him,” he told The New York Times before ending the interview, according to the report.

Justice Department officials have emphasized that the presence of names in the files does not constitute evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021. No additional criminal charges have been brought against other individuals named in the records.

The latest disclosure continues to fuel scrutiny over the extent of Epstein’s reach into political, financial, and diplomatic circles, as lawmakers and the public review the scope of communications revealed in one of the largest document releases tied to a federal criminal investigation.
