Washington, D.C. – The United States and representatives from 40 countries convened last week in Prague, Czech Republic, for an international symposium aimed at strengthening the implementation of reimposed United Nations Security Council resolutions targeting the Iranian regime.
According to a State Department press release, the meeting focused on advancing enforcement of renewed obligations under the restored U.N. sanctions framework. Participants examined challenges facing member states and shared best practices for compliance. U.S. officials said the symposium also secured commitments from several countries seeking country- and sector-specific technical security assistance from Washington to enhance the effectiveness of sanctions on Iran.
Discussions centered on the threats posed by Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile development, and conventional arms activities. Participants emphasized the importance of using all available national tools and capabilities to more robustly enforce the provisions outlined in the reimposed resolutions.
U.S. and partner nations highlighted growing concerns over Iran’s continued proliferation activities, as well as the regime’s violent crackdown on domestic protestors. Officials stressed the urgency of achieving universal implementation of the Security Council resolutions and associated restrictive measures to counter Tehran’s destabilizing behavior.
Six United Nations Security Council resolutions—1696, 1737, 1747, 1803, 1835, and 1929—were officially reimposed on September 27, 2025, following what U.S. officials described as Iran’s “significant non-performance” of its nuclear commitments.
The restored resolutions require Iran to suspend uranium enrichment, heavy water, and reprocessing activities; prohibit the use of ballistic missile technology; ban Iranian arms imports and exports; reinstate travel bans and global asset freezes on designated individuals; and authorize the seizure of prohibited cargo moving to and from Iran.
U.S. officials said the Prague symposium underscored renewed international resolve to hold the Iranian regime accountable and prevent further escalation of global proliferation risks through coordinated action.
