LEOMINSTER — The Colossal Frosty the Snowman is officially back in the city and two recent visitors proved you’re never too old for winter fun.
Ana Santos was out running errands a few days ago with her 18-year-old daughter Aubrey Newton and her daughter’s boyfriend Tyler West, 19, when she asked them if they wanted to visit the gigantic snowman Lee Kosiewski builds in his yard every year.
“She replied, ‘yes, a family trip!’ Santos said about her daughter’s response. “I love that she still gets excited.”
Newton is a senior at Leominster High School and West graduated with the class of 2025. They are just some of the many visitors who have already gone by to check out Frosty this season, who is brought to life each year by city resident Lee Kosiewski in the front yard of his 36 Ringer St. home.
“Building Frosty is an arduous task but the community response is worth more than I can explain,” Kosiewski said in a Sentinel & Enterprise story featuring his cold creation that ran last February. “Winters can be tough for a lot of people…so if I can make them smile and give the kids something to talk about, I think that’s a good thing. We get a lot of feedback from parents about their children’s wonder and imagination when they first lay eyes on the enormous snowman and that adds to the fun.”
He always puts out the word on social media letting people know when Frosty is ready and invites people to pay him a visit.
“All are welcome to take pictures standing in front of him,” Kosiewski posted in the Leominster community groups on Jan. 25.
Since then, several people have shared photos of visits with the snowman that measures approximately nine feet tall and 15 feet wide, complete with Kosiewski’s interpretation of “a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal,” pieces he handmade and reuses each year.
