Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) responded forcefully to new revelations outlined in The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon, the latest exposé by New York Times bestselling author and Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer.

In an exclusive statement to Breitbart News, Gill warned that the book exposes a troubling pattern of foreign interference in U.S. domestic politics enabled, he said, by years of lax immigration enforcement and political negligence.

Released by HarperCollins on January 20, The Invisible Coup lays out what Schweizer describes as a coordinated and long-running effort to use mass migration as a strategic tool to weaken the United States from within.

Central to the book is the claim that Mexico’s consulates across the United States have been operating what amounts to a shadow political campaign designed to influence American elections and policymaking in ways that serve Mexican national interests rather than those of the United States.

According to Schweizer, the Mexican government has gone far beyond providing routine consular assistance to its nationals abroad. Instead, he argues, it has actively worked with U.S.-based political operatives to mobilize both legal and illegal migrants as a reliable political bloc.

“The Mexican government is blatantly interfering in our domestic politics,” Schweizer writes, “working with American political advisors to turn legal and illegal migrants inside the U.S. into a political force to wield for their benefit.”

One of the most striking examples cited in the book dates back to February 2017, when former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) traveled to multiple American cities.

According to Schweizer, the purpose of the tour was not cultural outreach or diplomatic engagement, but rather to rally Mexican migrants against President Donald Trump’s border enforcement policies and energize political opposition to the Trump administration inside the United States.

Schweizer notes that AMLO went even further by proposing that Mexican consulates be transformed into migrant defense offices—institutions that would not only assist migrants legally but also serve as hubs of political organization.

“AMLO was not simply aiding migrants in their legal battles in the United States,” Schweizer writes. “He was calling for and working toward an electoral change inside the U.S. A foreign leader so brazenly interfering in American politics was unprecedented, at least from a country with which the United States was not at war.”

Beyond Mexico, The Invisible Coup also examines what Schweizer describes as systematic interference by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

He raises concerns about birth tourism, through which more than one million Chinese nationals allegedly obtained U.S. citizenship for their children by giving birth on American soil, before returning to China to raise them under a communist system.

Schweizer argues that this practice exploits America’s birthright citizenship laws and has long-term political consequences. When those children reach adulthood, they are eligible to return to the United States, vote in American elections, and even sponsor their parents for immigration—effectively expanding the influence of foreign elites within the U.S. electorate.

Reacting to these findings, Rep. Gill placed responsibility squarely on the Democratic Party, accusing it of enabling foreign adversaries by failing to secure the border and reform the immigration system.

“For years, Democrats have allowed adversarial foreign nations to infiltrate and influence American elections, policies, and institutions,” Gill told Breitbart News. “These foreign nationals have weaponized and abused our immigration system to exploit our national sovereignty and flood our country in droves.”

Gill contrasted that record with what he described as President Trump’s decisive leadership on immigration, praising the administration’s renewed enforcement efforts.

“President Trump has done an incredible job delivering on his promises to stop the border invasion, deport illegal immigrants, and secure our border,” Gill said, adding that Trump inherited “an immigration catastrophe from the Democrats.”

Gill concluded that Schweizer’s book serves as a warning to policymakers and the public alike, arguing that immigration policy is no longer just a domestic issue but a national security concern with far-reaching implications for American sovereignty and democratic self-governance.
