Iran Warns Any U.S. Strike Would Be Met as Full-Scale War as Military Tensions Rise

Iran will treat any military attack against it as an act of full-scale war and respond with maximum force, a senior Iranian official said Friday, as the United States prepares to move additional military assets into the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier strike group.

“This military buildup — we hope it is not intended for real confrontation — but our military is ready for the worst-case scenario. This is why everything is on high alert in Iran,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The warning comes as tensions escalate following comments from Donald Trump, who said Thursday that the United States had an “armada” heading toward Iran but expressed hope that force would not be necessary. Trump renewed warnings to Tehran against killing protesters or resuming its nuclear program.

“This time we will treat any attack — limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it — as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible to settle this,” the Iranian official said.

The official added that Iran views the deployment of U.S. forces as a direct threat to its sovereignty. “If the Americans violate Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, we will respond,” the official said, declining to specify what form that response might take.

“A country under constant military threat from the United States has no option but to ensure that everything at its disposal can be used to push back and, if possible, restore balance against anyone who dares to attack Iran,” the official said.

The U.S. military has periodically increased its presence in the Middle East during periods of heightened tension, actions often described as defensive. However, the current buildup follows last year’s major U.S. military deployment ahead of June strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program, an escalation that significantly raised the risk of wider conflict.

As additional U.S. forces arrive in the region, Iranian officials say the country’s military posture remains on full alert, with Tehran prepared to treat any strike, regardless of scope or description, as the opening of a broader war.
