President Donald Trump sharply criticized Democratic leaders in Minnesota over the weekend, accusing them of obstructing federal immigration enforcement efforts while attempting to divert public attention from what he described as widespread and costly fraud tied to the state’s Somali community.
According to reports, Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with what he views as resistance from Democrat-led state and local governments in Minnesota as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carries out operations aimed at removing illegal alien criminals from local communities.
The president emphasized that many of the individuals targeted by ICE are not minor offenders, but violent criminals, including child rapists, murderers, drunk drivers, drug traffickers, and burglars, Breitbart News reported.
Despite the nature of these crimes, Trump accused Minnesota’s Democratic leadership of portraying ICE enforcement actions as unjust or extreme, arguing that such rhetoric undermines public safety and emboldens criminal elements.
Fox News reported Sunday that Trump believes state officials are intentionally using opposition to federal immigration operations as a political shield—one designed to pull focus away from alleged large-scale fraud occurring within the state.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump directly questioned the motives of Minnesota officials and the protests surrounding ICE actions.
“ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the world from our country and bringing them back home where they belong,” Trump wrote. “Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers to be ensconced in their community?”
The president went on to claim that many of the demonstrators opposing ICE operations are not ordinary citizens but “highly paid professional agitators and anarchists,” suggesting the unrest is being artificially fueled for political purposes.
“Is this really what Minnesota wants?” Trump asked, before turning his criticism toward state leadership. “The crooked Governor and ‘Congresswoman’ Omar, who married her brother, don’t mind because it keeps the focus of attention off the 18 billion dollar, plus, FRAUD, that has taken place in the state! Don’t worry, we’re on it!”
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who has faced questions regarding her rapidly increasing personal wealth. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) recently said Congress intends to pursue answers.
“We’re going to get answers,” Comer stated. “Whether it’s through the Ethics Committee or the Oversight Committee, one of the two,” according to Breitbart News.
Adding to the controversy, recent reports indicate that the U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) over allegations that they interfered with federal law enforcement activities.
According to Breitbart News, the investigation centers on claims that Walz and Frey encouraged activist networks in Minneapolis to harass, block, and disrupt federal agents enforcing U.S. immigration laws.
“The investigation comes as Walz and Frey are encouraging networks of activists in Minneapolis to harass, block, and contain the federal enforcement of the nation’s popular immigration laws,” the report stated.
It added that while the probe is not directly tied to the alleged systemic fraud within state and local governments, those governments remain under the oversight of Walz and Frey.
Together, the allegations have intensified political tensions in Minnesota, as Trump and Republican lawmakers argue that Democratic leadership is prioritizing ideology and political cover over law enforcement, transparency, and public safety.
