The average national price for a gallon of gasoline fell to $2.796, the lowest level recorded since 2021, according to data released by AAA. One month earlier, the national average stood at $2.93.

The White House on Monday highlighted the decline, pointing to broad-based reductions in fuel costs across the country. In a post from its official Rapid Response account, the administration noted that average gas prices are now below $3 per gallon in 43 states and below $2.75 per gallon in 30 states, according to the statement.

The post further stated that in 17 states, average prices are at or below $2.50 per gallon. The administration added that drivers can find gasoline priced at or below $2 per gallon at some stations in at least 19 states: Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

Gasoline prices are widely viewed as a visible indicator of broader economic conditions, with changes at the pump often influencing consumer sentiment. Energy costs also play a role in the prices of goods and services, as fuel is a key input in production, storage, and transportation.

In a separate post, the White House also pointed to other economic indicators tied to affordability, including enforcement actions related to immigration and trends in housing costs, according to another Rapid Response post.

AAA updates its national and state-level gasoline price data daily based on surveys of fuel stations across the United States.
