Elon Musk said he intends to seek full custody of his one-year-old son after the child’s mother made public statements suggesting openness to gender transition at an early age.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said Monday that he plans to pursue full custody of his infant son following public remarks by the child’s mother that he said raised concerns about gender ideology being imposed on a one-year-old.
“I will be filing for full custody today, given her statements implying she might transition a one-year-old boy,” Musk wrote in a post on X, responding to comments made the previous day by Ashley St. Clair.
Musk’s statement came after St. Clair, a former right-wing political influencer, posted a series of messages expressing regret over her past criticism of transgender activism and signaling a shift in her political identity. In one exchange, she described herself as “dark woke” and referred to the child she shares with Musk, a one-year-old boy named Romulus, as the “sister” of her other son.
“I feel immense guilt for my role,” St. Clair wrote in a post on X. “And even more guilt that things I have said in the past may have caused my son’s sister more pain. I don’t really know how to make amends for many of these things but I have been trying incredibly hard privately to learn and advocate for those within the trans community that I’ve hurt.”
She added that she had hesitated to speak publicly because she believed her comments would be framed as disingenuous or motivated by personal grievances, but said she felt compelled to apologize and offer support to the transgender community.
Musk’s response appeared rooted in personal experience. He has previously spoken publicly about one of his older children, Xavier, who now identifies as a woman named Vivian, and has blamed what he calls ideological pressure for the transition.
“It happened to one of my older boys, where I was essentially tricked into signing documents,” Musk said during a 2024 interview with the Daily Wire. He said he was told at the time that refusing consent could lead to suicide, a claim he later described as false.
“That was a lie right from the outset,” Musk said in the interview. “Incredibly evil.” He added that he believes those who promote such practices should face legal consequences.
Neither Musk nor St. Clair has released court filings related to custody as of Monday afternoon. No further details were provided regarding the legal status of the child or any pending proceedings.
