Jacob Helberg, the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, will travel to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Israel from January 9 to 18, as Washington intensifies economic and diplomatic engagement in the region amid ongoing tensions linked to the war in Yemen.
According to U.S. officials, Helberg will hold bilateral meetings and participate in high-level economic events focused on strengthening U.S. partnerships, safeguarding regional trade routes, and advancing cooperation in emerging technologies—issues that have gained urgency as the Yemen conflict continues to impact regional stability, shipping, and energy markets.
In the United Arab Emirates, Helberg is scheduled to lead the U.S. delegation to the 11th U.S.–UAE Economic Policy Dialogue, a key forum aimed at coordinating economic policy, enhancing private-sector collaboration, and addressing shared challenges facing regional and global markets.
The visit comes as the United States works closely with Middle Eastern partners to manage the economic and security spillover effects of the Yemen war, reinforce strategic alliances, and maintain stability in one of the world’s most critical economic corridors.
