The bride wore white, the groom stood smiling — and the squirrel showed up like it had something very important to say.
What was meant to be a quiet, romantic wedding photo session for newlyweds Kelsey and Brenden quickly turned into a moment of pure delight when a fearless squirrel scurried straight into the frame, stealing the spotlight in spectacular fashion. The unexpected guest appeared during a post-ceremony shoot at Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, transforming a serene mountain portrait into a perfectly timed burst of joy.
The now-viral image captures the squirrel front and center, tiny arms outstretched, looking for all the world as if it had burst forward to shout, “I object!” Behind the bold interruption, the couple stands softly out of focus, frozen mid-pose as the woodland wedding crasher delivers its scene-stealing moment. Though the photograph was taken several years ago, it continues to charm viewers each time it resurfaces online.

Photographers Marcin and Dorota of BDFK Photography reshared the image on Instagram on Dec. 7, 2025, where it once again drew laughter and playful reactions. “When you try to take a romantic mountain photo and the local celebrity demands the spotlight,” they wrote, inviting followers to caption the moment, as shared with PEOPLE.
What looks like a perfectly lucky accident was actually the result of patience, planning and trust between the photographers and the newlyweds.
The photographers told PEOPLE the photo was “carefully planned and took about 15 minutes to capture.” When they arrived at the scenic location with Kelsey and Brenden, they noticed several squirrels running around and realized the moment had the potential to become something special.
“The concept was to make the squirrel the main subject, with the couple softly in the background,” Marcin explained to PEOPLE. “To achieve this perspective, I was lying on the ground with the camera ready, while my wife stood just above me, quietly making small sounds to attract the squirrel closer to the lens.”
As the squirrel cautiously moved toward the camera, everyone else had to remain perfectly still.
“We waited patiently for the squirrel to approach, taking many frames as it moved, while asking the couple to stay in place a short distance behind us,” Marcin said.
That stillness required commitment — especially from the newlyweds. The group had to be extremely patient to avoid scaring the animals away.
“Kelsey and Brenden stayed in the same position for nearly 15 minutes, trusting us completely — even though it wasn’t the most comfortable situation,” Marcin and Dorota told PEOPLE. “Their patience and trust made the photograph possible, and they absolutely loved the result.”
Viewers online loved it, too.
Since the image was first shared, the photographers have reposted it several times, explaining to PEOPLE that people “genuinely enjoy it and come up with great captions.” Among their favorites: “Marriage commissioner,” “Keep it moving, nothing to see here,” “Brothers and sisters, we are gathered here today,” and “Kids, look away — they’re about to kiss.”
“That playful reaction is exactly why this image continues to resonate with audiences,” the photographers said.
In a celebration meant to center on love, commitment and joy, a small woodland guest delivered an unforgettable interruption — proof that sometimes the loudest “I object!” comes with fur, whiskers and perfect comedic timing.
